Rosie The Riveter

To my Rosie The Riveter girls:

You are the peace makers, the go getters and the social activist. You are the kind of girls that see the problems with the world and find solutions. There will always be haters in your life that will try and tear you down and tell you that what you are doing isn't going to make a difference or that you are doing it wrong. Listen to me when I tell you that only you know if it is right or wrong. If you are loving others and looking out for those who are being taken advantage of, then you understand that this is much bigger than you! Your freedom is bound up in theirs and this is all so much bigger than just you.
You have the chance to change the world and here are a couple of things that I've learned on my short road in these activist shoes...

1. No dream is ever too BIG

I have always been a dreamer and I've always been told that my dreams are too big and that none of it is possible. But I've never listened to that. A dream can never be too big and with imagination, perseverance and passion you can make those dreams come true. The problem with our world is that we have lost imagination, that is the greatest crime of humanity.

2. You CANNOT do it alone

We were created to be in a community and never to do things alone. Even Jesus sent out his disciples in twos. I've learned through failure that you need people by your side to encourage you, love you and to make you think and grow. The extra pair of hands is always useful and the ideas that they can bring can make all the difference.

3. Humility is key

I struggle with this on a daily basis. It's so easy to get wrapped up in all that you are doing and want credit for the change that you've helped create. It's so easy to get caught up in the "celebrity" of all that happens. But I know that I've gotten a big head about it before and thats another reason not to do this alone. The people around you will keep you sane and remind you that you are human just like everyone else.

4. There is no such thing as Celebrities

It's easy to get caught up in the hype of famous people and be overwhelmed by them, but the truth is at the end of the day they are just the same as you. Just because more people know their name and they have more money then you doesn't mean that they are more important than you. They knew the right people and they worked hard to be where they are (maybe not the guys from Jersey Shore). However, when it comes down to it, they just want to be known and loved for who they are, just like you and me.

So to all my Rosie The Riveters our there, go and follow your dreams and don't let the world get you down!

XOXO
