<div style="text-align: center;">
Hello beautiful followers! I've been working a lot lately on getting ready for my trip to Africa and because of that I've been working on my other blog Undercover Peacemaker. Since that blog is on Wordpress I've gotten to know the program more and love the layouts over there. And since I wanted to really commit to this blog I thought it was time to make the url the name of the blog! </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
So without further a due, I would like to present the new <a href="http://borntodazzle.wordpress.com/" target="_blank">Born to Dazzle</a>! Please follow me over to the new site and keep reading there! I really do appreciate all your support and love and would really like for you to continue reading and giving feedback on Born to Dazzle at it's new location!</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
Grab some popcorn and the family cause I've got a great movie that EVERYONE will love!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I've been watching some weird movies lately, so to find a gem like this was very much needed! "Big Miracle" with Drew Berrymore, Kristin Bell, John Krasinski, Ted Danson and Dermot Mulroney is heart warming story about the reconnect of community and of nature. A story about the 1989 miracle of the world coming together to save a family of whales in Alaska, stuck under the thick winter ice, these whales are unable to get free on their own and face the possibility of death. Reporters and help come from all over the world to report on the story and to come together to make a real miracle.</div>

<span id="goog_2074490357"></span><span id="goog_2074490358"></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-gVvjoGicxlk/T_-KJVHcDII/AAAAAAAAAwM/YXtC2oAEWB8/s1600/Bigmiracle.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-gVvjoGicxlk/T_-KJVHcDII/AAAAAAAAAwM/YXtC2oAEWB8/s1600/Bigmiracle.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This movie was defiantly an eye opener for me as an activist! It showed people of every belief coming together for the same cause, to help these whales. Greenpeace activist, oil industry men, and military all joining in for the same cause, even though all their formal beliefs and reasons for helping these animals were different. This movie shows that we can coexist and love those around us even if we don't share the same beliefs. A really amazing movie that people of all ages will appreciate. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I will admit that I cry in most movies, but I did get teary eyed at the end of this movie, when you really saw a new community form! I would call this a 4 star movie! ****</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
My goal in writing a blog is to always be as honest as possible and to really share the true things that happen in life in general and in my life. So it's about to get real deep, and I'm not talking about the baby pool! One of the big struggles I have in my life is my singleness. Like all things in life it comes in waves, so there are days where I'm completely content with being single, on my own and independent. But there are days where society's world seeps into mine and messes things all up! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Our society tells women everyday, that their worth comes from having a man by their side. Women only go to college to find a husband and there must be something wrong with you if you aren't in a relationship. And if I'm going to be perfectly honest, I've never been in a relationship, I've dated some guys but never have been in an actual relationship and at 20 years old that means that there's something wrong with me. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
However, Being single does not define who I am, It leaves me free to be exactly who I am so that I can live each day with bright and bold colors. By being single I can find myself and really figure out not only who I am but what I want to do in this world! I'm able to develop so that I don't have to pretend for someone else but so when a man does come into my life he can know and see the real me!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-IvZ-A53Bwck/T_yuMh69roI/AAAAAAAAAvs/-FxZGmyafKE/s1600/Singleness.jpg" /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The other night I was not dealing with being single very well. (Probably because I was watching an over the top girly movie about an unrealistic relationship while i was painting.) Of course as any rational girl would do, I went on pinterest to distract myself and saw a post from my friend Coleen's blog <a href="http://www.shehasworth.com/2012/06/04/a-single-disorder/" target="_blank">She Has Worth</a>, about the bad views on being single, and it was just what I needed to hear. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
She mentioned the idea of God preparing the heart of the man that will be in your life or that he is currently doing work in Africa (we can only hope!)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Qsaoy2D-M04/T_yuLuBwXmI/AAAAAAAAAvk/aY7f79cAXHE/s1600/27810_131156366896737_1715550_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Qsaoy2D-M04/T_yuLuBwXmI/AAAAAAAAAvk/aY7f79cAXHE/s1600/27810_131156366896737_1715550_n.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
There is little reality TV that I watch but I do love the show Guliana and Bill on Style. Guliana is a girl after my own heart. She married at 30 (to a great guy, if I do say so!) and worked on the career that she wanted. She has pursued her dreams and created a life for herself. She's a real girl with a real story and even a real fairy tale ending. Her and her husband have the most functional relationship of all the reality stars and are just such down to earth and fun people (with some really great clothes!) But what I love about Guliana and her story is that she didn't sit and wait for a man, she didn't listen to society when they told her that her worth came from being in a relationship.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Guliana went after her dreams and along the way a man entered that dream and became a part of it. She was the woman that she needed and wanted to become and developed in a way that ended up being perfect for the man of her dreams. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
"For a whole to be a whole, the 2 halves must be whole" - Unknown</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
So continue on being you and working on fulfilling your dreams. Search for your heart and not for the heart of another. Because as you look for yours, and when you find your heart, his heart will be waiting there soon after. Before someone else can really know you, you have to know yourself.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>

Welcome to your journey. . .</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
Happy Fourth of July! I hope you all had an amazing holiday and a wonderful day of backyard BBQ's and summer games! Fourth of July just so happens to be one of my favorite holidays because of all the good foods and the friends you get to play with all day long.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This week I'm finishing up my online summer classes so I can finally start on the summer reading I've been wanting to dive into, and I can just relax and enjoy the beauty that I live in, here in good Ol' Colorado. It's defiantly been over the top hot here and with all the fires, a little dangerous too, but we seem to be making it through and still finding ways to live it up!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ku-Y3CojMNU/T_Y721PrdXI/AAAAAAAAAts/vIbjlJi_NrA/s1600/July4th.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ku-Y3CojMNU/T_Y721PrdXI/AAAAAAAAAts/vIbjlJi_NrA/s1600/July4th.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
My contribution to the BBQ was this awesome watermelon shark that we later filled with cut up pieces of watermelon! The best part was that we forgot toothpicks to hold the blueberry eyes in so I had to get creative and broke the prongs of a plastic fork to use instead! I'm quite proud of this amazing sculpture! (I've been asked to make another for the Olympic games!)</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-UyFiPZwQrpo/T_Y73V9oPcI/AAAAAAAAAt0/9NJ3E0w2ylE/s1600/July4th2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-UyFiPZwQrpo/T_Y73V9oPcI/AAAAAAAAAt0/9NJ3E0w2ylE/s1600/July4th2.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-LqD1WyGUtdg/T_Y73nVZm8I/AAAAAAAAAt8/zP7hGwkxUtQ/s1600/July4th3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-LqD1WyGUtdg/T_Y73nVZm8I/AAAAAAAAAt8/zP7hGwkxUtQ/s1600/July4th3.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
When we celebrate the Fourth of July, we don't mess around. Check out my girl Carli and Anna's fierce American nails.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Outdoor BBQ, laying in the shade, Kitchen Karaoke, backyard wiffle-ball, a sing-along of classic disney songs, and a walk home under the stars and full moon, makes for an amazing Fourth of July. We had to do our best since Colorado is on a fireworks ban because of this intense heat, and the fact that half the state is on fire. But we defiantly pulled it off and this will be a fourth to remember!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Hello World!!!!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
How is your summer going??? I'm so excited that my summer online classes end next week and I can focus on reading and relaxing and fully enjoying the rest of my summer. I move back home with my family at the end of July before I head out to Africa, which will be great time to spend before I leave especially because I get to watch the Olympics with my family. It's an odd feeling, the idea of moving back home, even if it's for a small amount of time.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Here's the good news, in my last post I talked about ending Born to Dazzle and only having one blog. But due to recent conversations and more thought about who I am and what I want to say to the world I've decided to keep Born to Dazzle as my women empowerment blog as well as Undercover Peacemaker as my activist blog. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-CiydaiSkc3g/T-6Al5cZT6I/AAAAAAAAAtQ/fM2_p0kVf4k/s1600/lookbook+3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-CiydaiSkc3g/T-6Al5cZT6I/AAAAAAAAAtQ/fM2_p0kVf4k/s1600/lookbook+3.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-WaC3tmHe5T4/T-6AmjynLEI/AAAAAAAAAtY/KNQOoJ2Wr_k/s1600/lookbook.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-WaC3tmHe5T4/T-6AmjynLEI/AAAAAAAAAtY/KNQOoJ2Wr_k/s1600/lookbook.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-khXoZrokd6U/T-6AnLMSolI/AAAAAAAAAtg/2pZjb5r9SI0/s1600/lookbook2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-khXoZrokd6U/T-6AnLMSolI/AAAAAAAAAtg/2pZjb5r9SI0/s1600/lookbook2.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
I've been working on looking at my life differently and not trying to make as many plans (key words - as many). My goal in life is to live each day by trying to make it more beautiful than I came into it. It's not always so easy to have the right outlook in life and today I'm really feeling that. I know that I have exciting things in my future, like Africa! but sometimes over this summer I feel like I'm just wasting away doing nothing while everyone else is out having adventures. I see summer as a time of rest but also as a time to explore and see the world in a new light.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
So that's what I'm struggling through right now, making my adventure the adventure of finding and creating beauty everyday that I get to open my eyes! So to start the right mind set I got in a super fierce outfit and did my hair to feel like a rock star.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Dressing yourself up the way that you want to be and showing exactly who you are to the world is a great way to empower your soul and to love yourself!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Always remember, you were Born To Dazzle!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Hey Everyone! So here it is, I'm starting the fundraising for my trip to Africa this fall. I'll be living there for three months and hopefully coming back as a new person with a better idea of what I want to do once I graduate from College next May.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I've been doing a lot of debating about whether or not to keep this blog since I've started a new one focused on Africa. Keeping up a blog is hard enough and when I'm in Africa this one will be really hard to keep up with since I won't be doing a lot of artsy stuff. At this point I'm thinking about letting it go and sticking with only one blog. If you haven't seen my other blog it's <a href="http://Undercoverpeacemaker.wordpress.com/" target="_blank">Undercoverpeacemaker</a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I'll keep some of the same stuff that I have on this blog on that one but also have a high focus on women's issues, religion, social justice and the green movement. The plan is to switch over August first, so get ready for a move!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Why hello there! How is everyone's week going???</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I've been working on some art recently and this is my newest work. I have to say it's my favorite piece ever! I'm so in love with it and it's very near and dear to my heart, to say the least!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
There's this book called "One Thousand Gifts" and it's a woman's story about learning to be grateful to God for all things. In one part of the book she describes herself running out into the fields of her farm and sitting and staring at the large full moon, over taking the night sky. This is my rendition of that.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I've been doing a lot of work and reading this week. School has me by my heals as per usual and work will be slower this week so I'm hoping to get to do another painting and get some fundraising started for my trip to Africa. I'll be selling some of the SUUBI jewelry from Light Gives Heat to help fund my travels as well as writing letters.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
As for now, that's all I've got for you, but don't worry there will be more to share later this week!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
You may or may not know that I love weddings! Both my siblings have gotten married within the past three years so I've been involved with them some and more and more of my friends continue to get engaged (what's in the water, right?) But the Zuckerberg wedding is a somewhat of a HUGE deal for my family. That's because, my beautiful, talented and oh so funny sister-in-law Malea was one of the consultants that sold Pricilla that very Claire Pettibone dress! (She specifically picked out the veil! Which, I say makes the whole out-fit!) News stations, radio stations and now tabloid news (Inside Edition) are all itching to talk to Mrs. Malea to find out all the details about this amazing purchase right her in Denver, Colorado!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-MgwuQcVH4Xs/T7xi85AmCvI/AAAAAAAAAsQ/eLF9mvcWrQw/s1600/Malea.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-MgwuQcVH4Xs/T7xi85AmCvI/AAAAAAAAAsQ/eLF9mvcWrQw/s1600/Malea.jpg" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Malea say's that there's not much to say. They didn't even know she was Mark Zuckerberg's fiancé until after the wedding when the designer of the dress, Claire, called to tell them how wonderful she looked and how excited they all were. Talk about a surprise phone call! She had been using a fake name during their appointments and usually avoided any talk of her fiancé. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-of-nZAwsTWY/T7xi92EjZgI/AAAAAAAAAsY/76Z_kFUoU-A/s1600/melea2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-of-nZAwsTWY/T7xi92EjZgI/AAAAAAAAAsY/76Z_kFUoU-A/s1600/melea2.jpg" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I can't say enough good things about my amazing sister Malea. She is one of the most kind hearted, humorous, good looking women I know. She works so very hard at her job and is always around when you need her. She's adopted the nick-names that the rest of the family calls me and all together fits perfectly with the Hutt family! She was made for us!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
So in case you didn't hear, Pricilla got it at <a href="http://www.lwdbridal.com/">Little White Dress Bridal Shop</a> in Denver - If you're in need of a beautiful dress, an amazing experience and a consultant you'll always remember, make sure to ask for Malea!!! She'll be sure to hook you up and make you gorgeous for your very big day!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I'll be sure to post whatever interviews I can of her and their big story! Keep a look out for, she's heading up the wedding ladder and could be dressing the next big celebrity wedding!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
XOXO</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-UcN3Rj_1aVY/T7rsUiiWrsI/AAAAAAAAAr8/KGtJp5wFpEA/s1600/phannypack.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-UcN3Rj_1aVY/T7rsUiiWrsI/AAAAAAAAAr8/KGtJp5wFpEA/s1600/phannypack.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Summer is my season! I love everything about it. Sitting on the front porch reading, all the green and plant life that has come out of the most peculiar places, warm sun hitting your face, Barbecues in the backyard, thunderstorms bringing the smell of rain, fresh fruit and even the smell of skunk (I think I'm one of the few who actually like that smell, it reminds me of summers growing up!) I love it all! And the summer clothes don't hurt either.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-dwebVw7yeFw/T7rsTz8EmzI/AAAAAAAAAr0/ze0X1aazNXY/s1600/closeup.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-dwebVw7yeFw/T7rsTz8EmzI/AAAAAAAAAr0/ze0X1aazNXY/s1600/closeup.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I've decided to accept the inner "hipster" in me and I'm now using a fanny pack instead of a purse (you can get one at almost any thrift store if you're looking). So far I love it and I love not carrying all the junk that I usually do. Seriously how often do I use half the stuff that I carry in my suitcase of a purse???</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I've been soaking up the summer air as much as I can these past few days and am planning some fun summer adventures to have, since I won't be doing any traveling this summer. . . did I mention that I'm moving to Uganda though??? So I guess I'm okay with no travel plans this summer! There are so many random things to do in Colorado. Some I've never done, others I haven't done since I was really little so I'm going to become the ultimate Colorado tourist! And lucky you, are along for the ride!!!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
If you're anything like me you need to listen to music whenever you are doing anything!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Let me help you with some wonderful pandora stations I've found.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
1. Katie Herzig</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
2. Carrie Underwood (Embrace the country girl in you!)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
3. The Civil Wars</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
These are my three favorite stations and I've found so many good artists through these stations. What are you listening to these days?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
SUMMER TIME! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I'm so glad to be done with this year and these classes! Although I'm taking classes online over the summer it's nothing compared to classes everyday and the feeling of having so much to do. This summer will be pretty calm, a little work here and there, but a lot of time to start focusing on fundraising for my trip to Uganda. – Don't worry details on that will be coming soon! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I recently found this new website (through facebook ads of all places) and have fallen in love! It's a site that shows you amazing companies that sell products to make the world a better place. Each company is either a Humanitarian, Eco-Friendly, Ethical or Enhancing the community or are doing all of these things. You will love all the fun things to find on this website and to see the companies that you already love!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I have a list of places that I need to get things from (especially when it comes to getting gifts and Christmas time). Not only do I want to buy stuff from these amazing companies but I'm already looking into trying to work for one of them when I graduate next year.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I hope you enjoy this place as much as I do and that you bookmark it on your computer. . . cause you'll be needing it later I promise you that!</div>

This month has been too crazy to even start to try and explain!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
But with finals next week and classes ending today I think I will be on a better schedule for life. . . oh and I should probably mention that come this fall, I will be moving to UGANDA!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I found out yesterday that I got the internship with Light Gives Heat and will be spending 3-6 months in Uganda working my dream into reality! I'll be keeping up more with Africa stuff and social Justice on a blog I started for my english class called <a href="http://undercoverpeacemaker.wordpress.com/">Undercover Peacemaker</a>.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Another story, last weekend on of my best friends had a bridal shower and it was like walking into a pinterest page. I painted some beer glasses for her gift so that no matter where she is she will always have a piece of Colorado with her. </div>

I'm ready for summer fun and weekend BBQ's! Projects and homework are piling up and things are only going to get worst before they get better. (I hope that means they'll be getting better soon!) </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">With all that said I've still been doing a lot to keep things together and things are looking up!</div><div style="text-align: center;">Last weekend I went to my parents house for Easter and another chiropractor appointment. (I've been working a lot on my health and will have some fun posts about getting healthy in a safe a good way soon!) We are celebrating Easter with the entire family next weekend but for Easter Sunday we put together a beautiful dinner for my grandparents in assisted living. It was a great time with my parents and grand-parents and coming from a golf family, watching the Masters was well missed. (Especially my favorite guy Adam Scott, who got a hole-in-one during the game! So proud!!!)</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">My grandma loves it when I wear fun and cute outfits to show her so I made sure to dress up special for her on Easter, she did mention it being her best Easter ever. But I think that had more to do with the amazing set up my dad did in their living room so that they could have a REAL home cooked me :)</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-93JhnGTWcZQ/T446uCqgAuI/AAAAAAAAAqI/TLTmXHEMUJE/s1600/lookbookEaster2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-93JhnGTWcZQ/T446uCqgAuI/AAAAAAAAAqI/TLTmXHEMUJE/s1600/lookbookEaster2.jpg" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">I am starting to miss my longer hair for some reason. I usually love having short hair but I seem to be in an awkward place where I'm just not quite happy with it!</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">However, this dress is my favorite dress in the world, so I still feel pretty darn fabulous!</div><br />

</div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">I hope you all had a wonderful holiday with your families and are finding ways to have fun and love as much as you can even if this time of the year is getting a little crazy!!!</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />

School and work and life has just been going crazy I haven't had any time to just sit and write. A couple weeks ago I had a doctors appointment to see why I'm having a hard time with my digestive system still (10 years this has been going on) and then in the last few years I've been having problems with blacking out and then in January I finally passed out. So after a bunch of tests and doctors appointments I found out . . . NOTHING! I hate that! I just wanted some answers so that I could solve the problem. In wanting to go to Africa, I've been really trying to get healthy and put myself together. So, my mom's friend who I like to call our "Spiritual Wellness Guru" told me to see this special Chiropractor. She focuses on people with anxiety problems and PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder). By realigning my skeletal structure and asking my body about the bad energy it's been holding in for years I've slowly been getting a lot better!</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Something really interesting I learned was that when something happens in your life your brain reacts to it in 3 ways. You have a visual memory, emotional memory and a physical memory. Therapists work on the first 2 issues but rarely is the 3rd matter taken care of. To deal with this you have to release that built up energy by shaking. When people talk about being so angry they were shaking, they had actually reached the climax of their anger and the shaking was bringing them down to a normal energy level. This is also why you shake after a major adrenaline rush. By doing some basic yoga moves and allowing your body to shake when it starts to (you know that feeling when you work out) just let it shake. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">I've been doing this about 3 times a week and my life is changing. I'm having less nightmares at night and I sleep better. When I'm awake I feel energized and ready to move. My next step to getting healthy is letting go of my sugar addiction and paying more attention to God by being present and being thankful. I'll keep you posted on how that goes.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />

</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">AND, this is super belated but, my girlfriend, Anna, just got me the photos from our Oscars party night! I had promised everyone that when I dressed up for the night I would dress up as Peppy Miller from The Artist, which ended up being a great idea because they won almost every award!</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/--6eiEFiJcDs/T4dysGLW5lI/AAAAAAAAAo4/KDOWOZ5y4hE/s1600/Oscars1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/--6eiEFiJcDs/T4dysGLW5lI/AAAAAAAAAo4/KDOWOZ5y4hE/s1600/Oscars1.jpg" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">You can see that we don't take the Oscars lightly around here! We all dress up to the max and drink champaign while we watch! </div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Q8WAiKHbAd4/T4dysyZLrbI/AAAAAAAAAo8/mBBsFmjCbeg/s1600/Oscars2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Q8WAiKHbAd4/T4dysyZLrbI/AAAAAAAAAo8/mBBsFmjCbeg/s1600/Oscars2.jpg" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I was voted best outfit of the night since I went full fledged Peppy Miller with the fur coat, 40's hat, vintage purse and pin-up curls. In the bottom left photo you can see Will with the bow tie, he was the host for the night, what a stunning guy he is! -And ladies he's single ;)</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Since we're on the topic of the Oscars I might as well share some thoughts on the red carpet looks since that is the best part!</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-5-Xhon8D-84/T4dyuzWHqqI/AAAAAAAAApI/JJT4GEHnuJ0/s1600/Black+Oscars.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-5-Xhon8D-84/T4dyuzWHqqI/AAAAAAAAApI/JJT4GEHnuJ0/s1600/Black+Oscars.jpg" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I separated the night into the colors that were the hits and the best of the dresses for each color!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">White/ Pastels were a big hit for the evening and boy did these women look Good! Jessica may have won for best dressed for me. I loved her dress and the details in the gold embroidery! and George and his date Stacy. . . Hot stuff! Enough said.</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-VGnQNW2zYZM/T4dyvuoAuLI/AAAAAAAAApQ/cEiJUmc5W40/s1600/Oscars+white.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-VGnQNW2zYZM/T4dyvuoAuLI/AAAAAAAAApQ/cEiJUmc5W40/s1600/Oscars+white.jpg" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I loved Gwyenth's coat that sat over her shoulders, Octavia looked like a goddess with this perfect fitted sequin gown, Louise was a reporter for the night but I just couldn't get over her dress. The draping done in this dress is spectacular and I thought the soft pink was perfect on her skin. And "The Girl With the Dragon Tatoo" looked fierce in her white mermaid gown, low cut in the front but well structured around the bust! You go girls!</div><br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-BkZJDQO8Td8/T4dywPHnFvI/AAAAAAAAApY/-sJ_Y6ooqHw/s1600/Red+Oscars.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-BkZJDQO8Td8/T4dywPHnFvI/AAAAAAAAApY/-sJ_Y6ooqHw/s1600/Red+Oscars.jpg" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I'm a huge fan of Emma Stone and I just thought she was to die for in this stunning red gown. With pulled back neat hair and a bow neck line, she was very classic. And a lot of times red heads going red don't look good but I think with her hair pulled back she really rocked this look!</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-fX3HOA7CdPs/T4dyw3K-qQI/AAAAAAAAApg/42LET5hrR00/s1600/Worst.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-fX3HOA7CdPs/T4dyw3K-qQI/AAAAAAAAApg/42LET5hrR00/s1600/Worst.jpg" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Angelina I love you girl, but the wide angles of this dress and your skinny figure made you look WAY too skinny. And there is just too much slit for anyone to handle. The dress is beautiful but girl, it just wasn't for you.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Hope you all are staying healthy and loving life and get the chance to wear your red carpet looks even when it's not the Oscars, we can all use a dress up girls night every now and then!</div><div style="text-align: center;">Much Love</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />

I'm currently in the process of applying for an internship with an organization in Africa. If I'm accepted and this all works out then I will be living in Uganda for 6 months next year!!! The more and more I learn about Uganda and the people, culture, language, geography etc. the more I fall in love with it. So as for now this is all I know, but of course I will be keeping you updated with anything that happens!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Aside from applying for internships I've been crazy busy with school, Invisible Children screening that is this wednesday, artwork, work and everything else in my life. School has been extremely stressful lately and I'm not sure how to handle all that work that keeps piling on, on top of all that I already need to do in general. I'm really hoping that next year I'll be in Africa for a year off to really rest from school and learn from the real world about issues that I care about and want to help solve.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://www.facebook.com/JMorganPhotography"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Ybg0bpaSd9I/T3Ewd-ia9qI/AAAAAAAAAow/RZjOZZW2XD0/s1600/Jess3.jpg" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">My good friend <a href="https://www.facebook.com/JMorganPhotography">Jessica Morgan</a> did a photo shoot of me and a friend a few weeks ago to add to my lookbook and to add to her portfolio. I'm so impressed by her photos and love this top one the most! She did an amazing job!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://www.facebook.com/JMorganPhotography"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-XQ_wZBAXpD8/T3EwcigG2qI/AAAAAAAAAog/mONgn6nCIzg/s1600/Jess1.jpg" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">These photos were taken at Horestooth Reservoir and a local park in Fort Collins. It looked to be a beautiful day but it was freezing!!!! </div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://www.facebook.com/JMorganPhotography"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-7s_d4sFgids/T3EwdaHjW2I/AAAAAAAAAoo/NJxUFXMTaqs/s1600/Jess2.jpg" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I hope all of you are off to a good start this week and not letting a case of the Monday's bring you down! Try and find the beauty in each day and find some time to do things that you love to do and that bring you peace, I know I'll be working hard at that this week!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Until next time. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">XOXO</div></div>Katie Leighhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02160338935395673043noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6983074010315878743.post-41036793665872602992012-03-24T21:27:00.000-07:002012-03-24T21:27:23.880-07:00The Hunger Games<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">The Hunger Games. I read the first book months ago and fell in love right away! What makes this book amazing? Besides suspense, cute boys, great character connections, twisted government leaders and insane archery skills, is the strong and fierce female characters. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-oXS2EL5fo2I/T26NQTD_HQI/AAAAAAAAAoI/68mWOD0ks8o/s1600/HG2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-oXS2EL5fo2I/T26NQTD_HQI/AAAAAAAAAoI/68mWOD0ks8o/s1600/HG2.jpg" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Katniss Everdeen, the heroine of the trilogy, speaks her mind, protects her family and knows how to hunt squirrels by shooting an arrowing straight through their eye. She is beautiful and confident and doesn't need a man by her side. Basically she is the woman hiding inside of all of us waiting to jump out, which is why we are all in love with her!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ETh0FEXgxkM/T26NRvN1JZI/AAAAAAAAAoY/S-z_PXBw2xY/s1600/HGcovers.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ETh0FEXgxkM/T26NRvN1JZI/AAAAAAAAAoY/S-z_PXBw2xY/s1600/HGcovers.jpg" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Jennifer Lawrence does an amazing job portraying Katniss and embodying all that she is. Jennifer has made it on to the cover of almost every major magazine since the trailers have come out. Who wouldn't want to interview the star of the best film of the year? Each magazine shows her beauty, and her skill as an actress all while revealing the strength that she herself holds as well. Katniss Everdeen and Jennifer Lawrence both go down as female role models in my book!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-iOjxVe55tAs/T26NPkujGRI/AAAAAAAAAoA/LCLWXcS9ISE/s1600/HG.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-iOjxVe55tAs/T26NPkujGRI/AAAAAAAAAoA/LCLWXcS9ISE/s1600/HG.jpg" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">The story line is about 12 districts where 1 boy and 1 girl from each district, between the ages of 12 to 18 are given as tributes to fight in the hunger games to the death. 1 person of the 24 will survive and bring their district honor. The Hunger Games were created after the people tried to go up against that capital 74 years ago causing a horrible war and the slaughter of many. The Capital came up with the Hunger Games in order to remind the districts of their past, but really it's the governments way of keeping control over the districts. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Katniss' sister Prim was picked for her districts tribute at the age of 12. Katniss, in order to save her sister, offers herself as tribute to fight in the hunger gamers, along with Peeta, the boy tribute from district 12. The rest of the story is the process of showing off the tributes before the games begin and then the rough and torturous games themselves.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-BgP6C0ZJ8W0/T26NQ-QS1kI/AAAAAAAAAoQ/qkOI3GzSpMI/s1600/HG3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-BgP6C0ZJ8W0/T26NQ-QS1kI/AAAAAAAAAoQ/qkOI3GzSpMI/s1600/HG3.jpg" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Finally, the hunger games are not only entertaining in their character relationships and intense action but the costumes are to die for! Katniss is from a poor district and therefore the fashion in her district looks like a concentration camp (enhancing the depressing nature of the "reeping" –choosing the tributes– and the overall suffering in the district). However Katniss continues to look like a badass when she's dressed in cargo pants and a leather jacket with her bow and arrows. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">The Capital has a fashion standard all of their own. In a couture/futuristic vibe Effy Trinkette portrays their fashion style perfectly. Different colored hair that matches the outfits along with perfectly matching eye shadow colors. Crazy patterns and bright colors and face paint to add to the look. The Capital is a whole new type of fashion to say the least. –I'm interested to see what trends will catch on and I'll be sure to document them for you!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">If you haven't read the books do so before seeing the movie. The books are always better and there is so much character relationships and details that you'll miss out on that really enhance the story line and make it even better. The movie will be more enjoyable if you already know some of the details since the movie can't show them all!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Happy Hunger Games and my the odds be ever in your favor!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">XOXO</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

Story: I helped put on a showing of Blood Diamond tonight at Colorado State University to get people interested and talking about child soldiers and prepare the for the roadies coming in next week (YAY!) Afterwards one of the girls came up and wanted to know all about how to get involved with Invisible Children and be apart of the revolution that has begun. After a nice long talk she thanked me for all that I do and said she would see me next week for the screening. I remember being in her shoes just years ago! SO COOL, it's such a nice feeling, feeling like you are right where you're suppose to be.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Life just continues to get better and better.</div><div style="text-align: center;">And for my next piece of excitement. . . a new look!</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">My Grandpa turned 90 a couple weeks ago and so the family got together to celebrate his big day! We all drove to Denver to meet at my grandparent's home and have dinner. My cousins, Aunt and Uncle were there along with my immediate family. My Grandma always loves the outfits I put together –– especially my vintage/feminine inspired looks. So I made sure to put together a very special look just for her.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ldQy7AoJFN8/T2lYcxNcM8I/AAAAAAAAAn4/diK8cWRx4SM/s1600/gapabday.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ldQy7AoJFN8/T2lYcxNcM8I/AAAAAAAAAn4/diK8cWRx4SM/s1600/gapabday.jpg" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">The jacket was a Christmas gift from my sister and brother-in-law from American Eagle. The headband was a D.I.Y project. The skirt is an old find from Forever 21 and the shoes came from a cute boutique in the mountains that sadly is no longer there.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Hope you are all enjoying the beautiful weather that seems to be spreading and leading to summer, soak it up! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">XOXO</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />

These past two weeks have been CRAZY! With the launch of KONY2012 and now 100 million views, I can't believe all that has happened within days, but in a whole other way I can. The movement of Kony 2012 is all about coming together as a whole. No longer caring about someone's religion, ethnicity, or gender. This about a universal love and a universal right. I am so proud to say that I am part of this movement and that our biggest of many dreams has come true. . . </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-JkQ-zZH4m_E/T2fuOvS-6aI/AAAAAAAAAns/p9_R10vmO_4/s1600/TIME+International.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-JkQ-zZH4m_E/T2fuOvS-6aI/AAAAAAAAAns/p9_R10vmO_4/s1600/TIME+International.jpg" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">That's right!!!! Joseph Kony is on the cover of International Time Magazine.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">And yet, this is just the beginning! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">With all the craziness that been going on, the critics, the haters and the doubters I just want to tell those who are still standing by us and IC that you are loved, that you are needed and your purpose is so much bigger than you could ever imagine! We chose to dream big and look what happened,</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">We wanted to tell 500,000 but instead 100 million heard</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">We started with a mission, we're ending with a revolution</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">We dreamed of the west knowing and now the world knows</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">They said it was impossible, but we told them that we love the impossible.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">And so the fairy tale continues. . . but this is so much better than a fairy tale, because this is real life, and this is about a global love, a love for justice, a love for life, a love for each other! KONY2012 -TIME MAGAZINE INTERNATIONAL ISSUE!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Tomorrow in the Colorado State University News Paper – The Rocky Mountain Collegian – I was asked to write an editorial on the KONY 2012 events and I'm so excited to see the response. Good or bad, a discussion will begin and this is something that everyone should be talking about!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I have lots more fun things to post this week so stay tuned– Kony 2012 and other topics of course! I don't want to overwhelm you all at once so I thought I would do a day by day kind of excitement. So make sure to check back in!!!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">XOXO </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

I can honestly say that for the first time in my life, reality is SO much better than my dreams. I have been blessed to be a part of a movement that started years ago and is now making the biggest social impact through social media EVER! A goal of 500,000 views by the end of the year was thrown to the wind when we hit 8 million on the first day and today (Day 3) we are OVER 50 MILLION VIEWS! I've had goosebumps almost all the time and have been tearing up regularly when people tell me they finally understand what I've been doing and that they want to be a part of this. Or when other activist friends ask for my opinion or expertise, I feel honored! It's been a week filled with emotion, passion and excitement. –My friend Tim even told me I need to do this kind of stuff with my life because when I talk about Invisible Children and KONY2012, I light up and catch on</span></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #333333; font-family: Times, 'Times New Roman', serif; line-height: 18px;"> fire! –</span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Times, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #333333; line-height: 18px;"><br />

Humility. I struggle with being set back into the crowd and be thrown into the "in" thing. I'm so happy that the world is hearing about this and that Joseph Kony will be arrested and served justice, but sometimes I want the credit of all the hard work I've been doing these past years and let it be known that I'm not just on the bandwagon but that this is my life. I told my friend this and she asked me what I thought humility was. It took me a minute but I said that it meant "realizing that It's not all about you" which is what our society tells us. I want the fame, the credit and the attention, but I have to remember this is SO much bigger and this is so much more important than me. So it's a constant struggle but I'm praying for humility and praying that I can just be so excited about the history that is being made!</span></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Times, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #333333; line-height: 18px;"><br />

It's hard not to make it about you and to go against everything that society tells you. Currently all the "haters" of the KONY2012 campaign don't understand that a company can help others without expecting anything in return. What people don't understand is that when you give something, you have less. But when you give love you have more. And that is what we (activists, Invisible Children and now The world) have learned. Giving love does give you something in return, LOVE!</span></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Times, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #333333; line-height: 18px;"><br />

Invisible Children (my family) started their KONY2012 campaign yesterday buy premiering their newest video explaining who Joseph Kony is and why it is our mission to arrest him and hand him over to the International Criminal Crourts (ICC). Jason Russell, one of the founders, interviews his 4 year old son asking him who Joseph Kony is and what he's been up to. If you couldn't understand why Africa's longest running war needed to end before, hearing it from a 4 year old will defiantly make it clear.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://www.stayclassy.org/checkout/set-donation?eid=14711"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-XfUuG22VkD0/T1bwV2sYZ6I/AAAAAAAAAmA/4TZGAKSgTYE/s1600/Kony2.jpg" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">In just 24 hours social media has been going crazy with the news spreading like wildfire! Invisible Children's website was even down for awhile because so many people were logging in. And I don't know about your Facebook thread but every other post is about Joseph Kony, and don't even get me started with Twitter!!!! Paramore, Oprah, Justin Bieber, The Buried Life from MTV, even the Hunger Games Twitter are tweeting about it! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.kony2012.com/"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-jRzyd3EJrW4/T1bwVJ5QjII/AAAAAAAAAlw/YXhcCUaT8IE/s1600/Kony1.jpg" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">This is history in the making right now and by the end of this year Joseph Kony will be arrested and tried for the horrors he's caused for a quarter of a century. One of my biggest dreams is slowly coming true and I'm overwhelmed by what is going on with everything. This is absolutely the best week ever! Years of activism, of being in love with a cause, years of ridicule and harassment about not being able to make a difference or being insane, now I can say, "Dreams do come true, and only the crazy one's can make it happen!" </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-PKWqnIlRjLY/T1bwW7v0kkI/AAAAAAAAAmI/bWsmgqb7Am4/s1600/Kony3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-PKWqnIlRjLY/T1bwW7v0kkI/AAAAAAAAAmI/bWsmgqb7Am4/s1600/Kony3.jpg" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Make sure to check out <a href="http://www.kony2012.com/">KONY2012.com </a> - Sign the pledge to help make KONY the most famous man in the world! Watch the video, Donate if you can, but most importantly know that ANYTHING is possible when you put your mind to it and your heart in it. You can change the world and you can make a difference and no matter what others say, as long as you know what you want in life, you can get it! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Dream on, Follow those dreams, And change the world!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

I love taking pictures and making images the best that they can be! I will admit that learning all about cameras and the technical side of them is not easy nor simple. Whenever my friends are with me while I'm taking pictures I use all the photographer's terminology forgetting that they have no idea what I'm talking about. So for you wanting to know more about photography or simply hang out with photographers and don't want to be out of the loop anymore, I have made you your own personal cheat sheet! </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Enjoy!!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-iN0zsjUWZ_0/T0_oz_zQSrI/AAAAAAAAAlM/vYJGkCOh0qI/s1600/Photography+101.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-iN0zsjUWZ_0/T0_oz_zQSrI/AAAAAAAAAlM/vYJGkCOh0qI/s1600/Photography+101.jpg" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">A key thing to know about professional photography is that almost every photo has additional computer editing to it. Most people think that the life of a photographer is glamorous and easy. Although the actual shooting of photographs and interacting with people can be a lot of fun, and you get to experience some amazing things, 90% of what we do is photo editing and making the photos look perfect for printing and displaying. So if you are really interested in getting into photography I suggest also learning about photo editing. (iPhoto is a great starter program but if you can get photoshop I recommend it!)</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Feel free to comment with any other questions about photography or anything of the arts for that matter.</div><div style="text-align: center;">Happy learning</div><div style="text-align: center;">XOXO</div></div>Katie Leighhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02160338935395673043noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6983074010315878743.post-11151730817431643682012-02-26T22:03:00.001-08:002012-03-09T23:07:07.444-08:00Workaholic<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"><div style="text-align: center;">I've been told over and over again that I like "to put too much on my plate". This phrase always brings up the image of a really small plate and all the fixing of Thanksgiving dinner spilling over the edges onto the floor, where my dog is then licking it up, thrilled that I have too much going on! I suppose this imagery isn't quite right in regards to the dog – maybe it's the people who are so happy that they don't have my plate, but I think my dog would rather have my plate than the spilt food on the ground. . . Anyways, my biggest problem is that I not only have 106 things that I want to do in my life but then I have all those side things that also bring me joy. For example I want to find a job that I can work with women, drool over fashion, paint and write. So far this blog is the only way of combining all the things, but I don't quite make enough to go completely blogger. Aside from all those loves I have a job that actually pays the bills, friends who are always doing things that are just way to much fun and of course I'm finishing my college degree, and whenever I can find room between the "mash potatoes" and "stuffing" there are always those boys – enough drama there to fill an entire plate by itself!</div><div style="text-align: center;">To add to this short to do list I also want to look at journalism for something to do while I'm traveling, blogging for a fashion magazine –who wouldn't love that?!?! Doing wedding photography, working on my painting, spending time with God, Activism and learning to cook –cereal only counts for so many meals. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">I'm learning that I need to simplify my life, choose what I love most focus on one of my 106 dreams or create a new dream that uses as much of my loves as possible and get organized. So I've started working on new ideas, researching careers, and really trying to tone down all of the things I want to do. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-3Nds_dY8n54/T0sbv2EWr0I/AAAAAAAAAlE/vGiVF0LkpmQ/s1600/work+Place.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-3Nds_dY8n54/T0sbv2EWr0I/AAAAAAAAAlE/vGiVF0LkpmQ/s1600/work+Place.jpg" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">You can see from my work place that I'm getting things done!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I'm working on eating better and drinking less Dr. Pepper – some days are better than others! So Tea seems to be my new obsession! I have notebooks galor with random notes about everything and anything in them along with books on activism, women, God, and art that I can't ever get enough of. Jasmine Star is one of my hero's so reading her magazine about photography has been absolutely wonderful and I've learned so much! Of course with all research you need an assistant. Meet Delilah, my MacBook Pro :)</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I'm getting more organized and realizing that I love beauty and making women feel beautiful. Focusing on the beauty of the world through photography, painting, writing or activism seems to be the common thread here, so I'm starting there. As for the rest I still have no idea how to condense all of these things into a more reasonable portioned Thanksgiving Dinner.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I'm hoping that something will come to me soon! Any ideas for me?!?!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">XOXO</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />

There really is no such thing as a celebrity, like Jason Russell from Invisible Children said. We are all just people, and we are all just trying to figure out life. With that said I still was honored to meet one of my hero's Sheryl WuDunn, and although there is no such thing as celebrities, people like Sheryl, and other successful activists get me so excited and overwhelmed and meeting them is too amazing!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Thursday night at Denver University, Women of Vision – a branch of World Vision – put on a night of hope by having speakers Sheryl WuDunn and Colorado Attorney Beth Klein come and speak about the battle against sex trafficking in the world. Currently there are more slaves today than during the late 18th century when the slave trade started. Not only that but slaves are also worth less today. A slave today is worth around $200, while a slave during the 18th century would have been worth $40,000 (calculating inflation). This literally means that our world today sees women as being of no worth. To add to this horror there are 60-100 million women missing in the world. BUT there's hope!!! "Women are not the problem, they are the solution", says WuDunn over and over again.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Here is the basic breakdown of what's going on and what needs to happen in order for the "Gendercide" to end. First of all many families sell their daughters into the sex trade because of their poverty. If instead the family would invest in her education she would bring them out of poverty. Statistics have shown that educated men usually leave to go get a job, whereas educated women will give back to their community and provide for their families, start small business and invest in those around them. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Another major problem is high maternity mortality rates. A woman dies every sixty seconds in the world from child birth. Educating women is the greatest way of population control. Women who are getting an education will wait to have children and are willing to say "no" to their husbands when deciding on the number of children to have. Plus women who are having less children have a lower chance of dying in child birth. Furthermore with higher education women understand things about sterilization and delivering in a hospital, and more women will become mid-wives to help save lives.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-nnVknSS_eDY/T0Bzf3uDUTI/AAAAAAAAAk8/CKGVYEV1Kko/s1600/quote.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-nnVknSS_eDY/T0Bzf3uDUTI/AAAAAAAAAk8/CKGVYEV1Kko/s1600/quote.jpg" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Sheryl WuDunn is married to New York Times journalist Nicholas D. Kristof another idol of mine. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">WuDunn told multiple stories from her travels with her husband, which are also mentioned in their co-authored book "Half The Sky", which is being turned into a PBS documentary featuring America Ferrera and Diane Lane. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Denver Attorney Beth Klein also came and spoke about the multiple brothel rings that have been taken down in Denver, and the dozens of sex slaves that have been rescued and are now in the process of rehabilitation. Klein also encouraged everyone to get involved with the new rehabilitation center that is being built in Denver within the next year. (If interested in using your talents to help rescued sex slaves in this new rehabilitation center, feel free to email Klein and tell her your interest).</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-uagBuAFsqZk/T0Bze2G4HpI/AAAAAAAAAks/3dWExcBtBAg/s1600/Sherly&Beth.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-uagBuAFsqZk/T0Bze2G4HpI/AAAAAAAAAks/3dWExcBtBAg/s1600/Sherly&Beth.jpg" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">The good news about all of this is that there is hope! Donating to a cause is always a great idea but even better is choosing a cause that means something to you and becoming a part of it. Working with the people there and helping whenever you can and sticking with it for years is what will make the difference. Saving the masses is not the goal, but changing a single life (maybe even yours) is what's important. So find a cause that means something to you and stick to it! (But remember the business of helping others is not an easy job, but is one of meaning and can permanently increase your happiness.)</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-RlKhpjxBEPY/T0BzfdKclhI/AAAAAAAAAk0/YCSRwZpe9So/s1600/Sheryl&Me.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-RlKhpjxBEPY/T0BzfdKclhI/AAAAAAAAAk0/YCSRwZpe9So/s1600/Sheryl&Me.jpg" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"> And here's MY most exciting moment of the night (I was SO nervous before meeting her!) I got a short time to interview Sheryl while she signed my book and during that time a documentary crew did some filming and got our talk on tape. (Let's just say I could be in a documentary in the future, I'll keep you updated though).</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Needless to say, this was one of the most amazing nights.</div><div style="text-align: center;"> I'm continually reminded that this is the path that God has put me on. Traveling, loving, learning and showing others the truth –whether through art, speeches or writing. I can't wait to see what is coming next in my life. I'm looking more into journalism and photojournalism and seeing all the possibilities that the future could hold. And after learning about the high mortality rates in child birth I would love to learn more about delivering babies. Some of the stories that WuDunn told were about women who ended up working for maternity hospitals and becoming nurses even though they only had 2nd grade educations.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">The world holds more for you than you could ever know!</div><div style="text-align: center;">XOXO</div><br />

My Grandma was put in the hospital this week which was a big scare and then a friend of my (Holly) from my social justice camp was killed followed up with some tense drama with some friends. I don't take death well at all, as in I don't deal with death. Holly was not someone super close to me, we were in the same group at our camp and so we talked some, but the hardship of knowing someone and then them leaving for good is such a hard thing to face. My passion for social justice comes from these same emotions. Knowing the names of the people that are hurt and killed, feeling that connection and that loss that their loved ones feel is really what the human connection is about. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">With all this happening its needless to say I was in need of a night out and a night to forget everything going on in my life. So my best friend Carli and I had a wonderful girls night out this week. We had boy talk, free ice cream and after realizing a full moon was rising we decided to drive up to Horsetooth and watch the moon over the city and take some pictures. After getting in trouble by the cops for where we were parked we drove home and played Donkey Kong on Super Nintendo for hours. It was seriously the best night out I've had in a very long time!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">And here are some of the photos from our adventure on Horsetooth!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

<div style="text-align: center;">I don't know if you've seen this video before, but it is going crazy on facebook and I think every Christian I know is talking about it. It's a really great video. I would say that I agree with 96% of what he says and that seems to be the general consensus around Christians. REALLY? Is this video not about how Christians see themselves as the chosen ones and the ones who have "life", that Christians are hypocrites and don't love their neighbor and don't actually do what Jesus set out to do and yet ALL of them agree with this video?</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">This got me thinking. I look at a lot of the Christians I know and can tell you right now that I've felt persecuted by them and not good enough and like I'm doing it all wrong. I first hand have witnessed them doing what this guy claims to be the problems with religion and they supposedly agree. Now I'm not trying to point out how wrong they are and how bad of people they are for agreeing with this and not following it. That is NOT what I'm saying. However, this got me thinking, am I following what I agree with. Do I practice what I preach?</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">The number one thing I believe is that God is the center of all things. Second to that I believe that God is love and to God like we have to love those around us. So I believe in love. I know that I have done wrong, even this morning I proved to be imperfect, but my new goal is to really love those around me even when I think it will kill me. And I hope to be the woman that I want to be and to actually follow in the footsteps of my words. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">A little bit deeper of a post than usual, but I like to keep you thinking ;)</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />

Sadly I'm not the best cook. It's not that I don't know how to cook (as long as there's a recipe in front of me) it's mostly that I'm lazy. Cereal, toast, bagels really any breakfast food I'm pretty good at. When you get any fancier than that, I usually would prefer not to have to make it. There is one recipe however, I am known for, and that is my very special Katie bugs. I started making these in middle school after a friend of mine sent me the recipe. Growing up my mom and dad always called me Katie Bug and I associated that with Ladybugs. And so a collection of Ladybug stuffed animals, frames, cards and even appetizers started.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">For Finals last semester my metal-smithing class all brought in food for us to share on our last critique. I had the bright idea to make what I brought in – I, however, was the only one to make their snack– and so I shared with the class my Katie Bugs!</div><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">All you need is Crackers, Veggie spread, grape tomatoes, olives and black gel food coloring. (You can also fold a chive in half and stick it in the olive for the antennas but they fall out a lot so I don't always use them.) Cut the grade tomatoes into fourths and use 2/4's on each cracker. Since I'm a poor college student I used a cookie tray with scrap-book paper to decorate it and make it look cute. (It just so happens to be a floral/leaf pattern) What's amazing about these little critters is they actually taste amazing!!!! I love these guys. So next time you need an appetizer just remember these Katie Bug's cause they are quite the hit!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
